Important things to know
About accumulating Avios and rewards
- You'll earn Avios on new purchases, but not on balance transfers, money transfers and transactions that make up your cash balance. This includes cash withdrawals, bank transfers and foreign exchange purchases. You will not earn Avios for transactions that are later returned or refunded. You must also comply with your account terms and conditions and stay within your credit limit. You can learn more aboutearn and spend Avios, including purchases that are eligible.
- Cabin upgrade vouchers must be used when booking Avios award flights. Award flights and cabin upgrades are subject to availability. Taxes, fees and transportation charges apply per person. You can read additional terms and conditions that apply tousing a cabin upgrade voucher.
- When you apply for a Barclaycard Avios card, you can either link it to an existing British Airways Executive Club membership or we'll create one for you. We will then transfer the Avios you earn with us to your British Airways Executive Club account each month. - You can choose Barclays Avios Rewards if you're a Premier Banking customer or have a personal wealth checking account with us – you'll need to sign up for the Barclays app and also have a British Airways Executive Club account. Why can I get a different price?
Acceptance of a card depends on your credit history and how you've managed credit in the past. Depending on your individual circumstances, we may be able to offer you a variable APR of 31.9%. Of course, if you are not satisfied with this alternative, you do not need to proceed.
Common questions
Will I get a welcome bonus if I already have a Barclaycard?
If you switch from your existing Barclaycard to one of our Barclaycard Avios cards, your welcome bonus is
- Barclaycard Avios Card – 1,000 Avios when you spend at least £1,000 within three months of receiving the card
- Barclaycard Avios Plus Card – 5,000 Avios if you spend at least £3,000 within three months of receiving your card
You can use the Barclays or Barclaycard app to check if you're eligible to switch to a different card – such as one of our Barclaycard Avios cards. Sign in to your app, open "Cards" from the home page and select "Switch to a different card".
You can only claim the welcome bonus once, so you won't be eligible for it if you switch from one of these cards to another. If you do not meet your spending goal in time, you will not receive the welcome bonus. You can check how close you are to the target and how much time is left to reach it in the Barclaycard Avios section of the Barclays app.
When will my Avios be available in my British Airways Executive Club account?
We will transfer any Avios you earn with us to your linked British Airways Executive Club account on the second working day of the following month.
Will I earn Avios on purchases outside the UK?
Yes, you will earn Avios on qualifying purchases abroad as long as you stay within your credit limit.
How many British Airways cabin upgrade vouchers can I collect?
You will receive a cabin upgrade voucher2for each 12-month period you've met your Barclaycard Avios spending target. More details on cabin upgrade vouchers can be found at ba.com/cabin-upgrade-voucher.
How do I use the British Airways cabin upgrade voucher?
A cabin upgrade voucher allows you to move up a cabin class (where available) – from Premium Economy (World Traveler Plus) to Business (Club World), for example. Bookings cannot be upgraded to a First Class cabin using the cabin upgrade voucher.
Flights booked with Avios are called reward flights. You can use your cabin upgrade voucher on an Avios award flight booking. You can book any destination in the world, where there is availability, with British Airways and its partners. You pay with Avios Plus a cash amount for taxes, fees and carrier charges per person. The cabin upgrade voucher must be used when booking an Avios award flight. You cannot change an existing booking to use the voucher.
The British Airways Executive Club member must book the Avios award flight and travel must have commenced within 24 months of the cabin upgrade voucher being issued. For full cabin upgrade voucher terms and conditions, visit ba.com/cabin-upgrade-voucher.
How do I get my British Airways cabin upgrade voucher?
Once you've reached your spending target, it can take up to five working days for your cabin upgrade voucher to appear in your British Airways Executive Club account. You won't be able to see it in the Barclays or Barclaycard app. Visit ba.com/cabin-upgrade-voucher to learn more about cabin upgrade vouchers.
Where can I check my Avios balance?
You can check your total Avios balance in the Barclays or Barclaycard app and see how many Avios you've accumulated with us. You can also check your total balance in your British Airways Executive Club account.
Can I link more than one British Airways Executive Club membership to my Barclaycard Avios card?
No – you will need to decide which British Airways Executive Club membership to link to your Barclaycard Avios card.
Will I continue to collect Avios for spending that exceeds the agreed credit limit?
No – you will not earn Avios on transactions that exceed your limit.
Can I switch between Barclaycard Avios and Barclaycard Avios Plus cards?
You can check if you're eligible to switch from one Barclaycard Avios card to another in the Barclays or Barclaycard app5. Any money spent on your existing Barclaycard Avios will not count towards your spending targets for extra rewards. You will not receive a second welcome bonus.
What is Airport Lounge Membership?
It's an added benefit you get with our Barclaycard Avios Plus account. It gives you discounted access to selected lounges and airport services around the world. We've teamed up with our partners, Assurant and DragonPass, to bring you an Airport Lounge membership that brings you

How do I join the Airport Lounge?
Once you've opened your Barclaycard Avios Plus account, our partner DragonPass will send you an email. This will explain how to download the DragonPass Premier+ app or go to the website to sign up and start using your Airport Lounge membership. You can also contact DragonPass on 0333 220 5599, Monday to Sunday, from 6am. until 10 p.m.
With the DragonPass Premier+ app, you can:
· Access to your digital membership card
·Find salons, restaurants and spas and see what services they offer
·See where free or purchased passes have been used, check your renewal date and buy more passes
· Pre-book access to your salon at least 72 hours in advance for £5 per person per visit
